ISF projects are based on the needs of the communities in which they are carried out and the people who benefit from them always take part in the planning process. The foundation’s partners are established local Non-Governmental Organizations. The ISF tries to improve the efficiency of its work in partner countries by means of training and projects that increase self-sufficiency of the communities.
The principles according to which the ISF implements its projects include a long-term commitment and partnership with the beneficiaries. The objective is to set up country-specific programmes concentrating on particular issues, such as increasing women’s political participation in Somalia or improving food security in the Nicaraguan countryside.
Work in Finland
The ISF creates contacts between Finns and people in developing countries. The foundation carries out global awareness campaigns and organises courses, training and other events in Finland. Those interested in the foundation’s work can support individual projects financially, sponsor development cooperation projects by donating a sum of their own choosing or regularly give part of their salary to the foundation. The ISF also sells handicraft products made by project partners.
The ISF produces information material aimed at arousing and maintaining interest in globalisation, international themes and issues related to life in developing countries.
